Despite this I fully recommend everyone playing with it enabled (hence why it's enabled by default). Nonetheless the levels weren't originally designed with mantling in mind and I only made minor level adjustments to accommodate it, so that's why it's optional. System Shock series, Thief series, Invisible War mantling was a staple of these games and it was unfortunate Deus Ex never had the same. It's also worthwhile for those that take Silent Run instead of speed/jump enhancement, so they don't need to run around the level looking for a little box just so they can climb a waist-high wall.ĭoes it fit the game's design principles? Yes. However it also creates new challenges and opportunities for traversal through the level design in stealth/combat/exploration. I wouldn't have included the option to disable it otherwise.Īs for objectivity: does it simplify some vanilla platforming/box stacking challenges? Yes. Developer here: mantling is indeed optional and not needed for any particular segment to progress.
